DiSp: An Architecture for supporting Di erentiated Services in the Internet

In this paper, we propose a new framework for supporting di erentiated services over the Internet. The proposed approach is di erent from the current IETF proposal for Di serv, while still maintaining the goals of Di serv. Our architectural framework allows distribution of complexity from the internal routers to the edge routers as well as the Autonomous System routers. We support three classes of sevices: Real-time, Statistical bandwidth and Best e ort service class. The admission control policy for the real-time and statistical ows allows xed delay bound guarantees to be given to QoS applications. We also discuss how our architecture can easily support important applications such as Virtual Private Networks.
